چکیده

Seed shattering is a key constraint to improvement of seed yield in perennial ryegrass and, as result, retention an essential trait for breeding this valuable crop. It unclear whether sources are available plant breeders. Field studies were conducted near Corvallis, OR 2 yr (2017–2018 and 2018–2019) identify genetic variation ascertain there was phenotypic traits that may contribute loss due shattering. The field examined the values these 40 diverse global accessions genotypic lines within accessions. Plant mortality high only 21 original survived sufficient numbers analysis. exhibited great growth habit, spikelets per spike, seeds weight, spike length, retention. among ranged from 27.1 78.7% with commercial cultivar at 42.4% For most part, observed other characteristics similar found investigations, some materials representative cultivars. This study presents evidence higher than cultivars could be used shatter-resistant

Population Structure, Genetic Variation, and Linkage Disequilibrium in Perennial Ryegrass Populations Divergently Selected for Freezing Tolerance

Low temperature is one of the abiotic stresses seriously affecting the growth of perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.), and freezing tolerance is a complex trait of major agronomical importance in northern and central Europe. Understanding the genetic control of freezing tolerance would aid in the development of cultivars of perennial ryegrass with improved adaptation to frost. The plant mater...

Stem rust in perennial ryegrass seed crops: epidemiological and genetic research at USDA-ARS

In production of perennial ryegrass seed in the Northwest USA, stem rust is the primary disease constraint in terms of management cost and potential yield loss. The USDA-ARS research program on this problem is focused on improved decision making for fungicide use, and tools for genetic improvement. Data from 10 years of field and greenhouse research was used to construct an epidemiological mode...

Association of candidate genes with drought tolerance traits in diverse perennial ryegrass accessions

Drought is a major environmental stress limiting growth of perennial grasses in temperate regions. Plant drought tolerance is a complex trait that is controlled by multiple genes. Candidate gene association mapping provides a powerful tool for dissection of complex traits. Candidate gene association mapping of drought tolerance traits was conducted in 192 diverse perennial ryegrass (Lolium pere...

Simulating perennial ryegrass cutting

Perennial ryegrass is one of the most commonly cultivated forage species in Europe, where grazing and mowing (cutting) are used to manage this resource. Cutting can be characterized by its intensity (height) and its frequency. Combinations of these two factors affect mono-species grasslands productivity and could also modify the genotypic composition of heterogeneous populations. Indeed, the hi...
